Das Englische Acre (für metrisch sozialisierte, wie mich) und einige spekulative Annäherungen… …

1 square rod = 1 perch
16 perches = 1 square chain
10 square chains = 1 acre
640 acres = 1 square mile

oder

4 rods = 1 chain
10 chains = 1 furlong
1 furlong x 1 rod (also 1 perch) = 1 rood
4 roods = 1 acre

8 furlongs = 1 mile


Ein Viertel des Broadacre City Modells im Vergleich zu einer Quadratmeile unterteilt in 640 (broad) Acres à 264 x 165 Fuß (ca. 80 x 50 m). [Sdoutz 2007]

Das dargestellte Gebiet auf beiden Plänen entspricht jeweils 160 Acres [= 64,75 ha = eine Quarter-Section, ein "Viertel"] ausgewiesen für "Kleine Häuser".

Entstehungsgeschichte

  • Meine Sicht von Broadacre City entstand im Mai 1999 im Rahmen meiner Diplomarbeit 16/3 und ging im Juni des selben Jahres online.
  • Im Mai 2007 fand eine englische Übersetzung ihren Weg ins Netz.
  • Alle Links zu http://contentdm.unl.edu/ [University of Nebraska-Lincoln Libraries] wurden erneuert (25.11.2008)
  • Links zu http://www.mcah.columbia.edu/ [Columbia University in the City of New York] hinzugefügt (2.8.2009)
  • Allfällige Datierungen sind den jeweiligen Quellen entnommen [!]. Wikipedia und 'The Complete Works' von Bruce Brooks Pfeiffer bringen [auch hier] eine gewisse 'Konventionalisierung' mit sich, wollen/können das 'Chronologieproblem' älterer Publikationen (zumal von Zeitzeugen) nicht klären.
